Indonesia based E-Commerce company, Tokopedia (a BEENOS investment), announces $1.1 Billion in fundraising from Alibaba and existing investors

Tokyo, Japan – 18 August 2017 – BEENOS investment PT Tokopedia (Tokopedia), the largest online marketplace in Indonesia, has announced the conclusion of funding arrangements of $1.1 Billion USD from Chinese E-Commerce leader Alibaba Group Holding Limited (Alibaba) and existing investors. BEENOS holds 1-5% in shares, post fundraising, of Tokopedia.

 

Tokopedia, founded in 2009, is Indonesia’s largest online marketplace that allows anybody to easily list and sell items across Indonesia. Millions of sellers including local brands and small and midsize businesses sell a wide variety of products. Tokopedia continues to see growth as it is the most visited website in Indonesia (according to Similar Web).

 

With the addition of Alibaba as a strategic shareholder, Tokopedia aims to become the uncontested number one marketplace as it continues to fortify its services and features and increase its business volume.

 

BEENOS invested in Tokopedia in April 2012 and supported Tokopedia as its top shareholder until October 2014. BEENOS has also invested in Indonesia’s largest online payment service company “Midtrans” in January 2012 and “Ralali,” a B2B marketplace operated in Indonesia, in June 2015. BEENOS continues to be attentive of the rapid growth of the EC market in Indonesia.
